The PhilSA AD Astra Scholarship program is now open to apply for all eligible college students in the Philippines throughout the year. The Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) announced that it is now accepting applications for its scholarship programs throughout the year.

PhilSA AD Astra Scholarship

The Philippine Space Agency – popularly known as PhilSA – is a central government agency responsible for all national issues and activities related to space S&T applications. PhilSA AD Astra Scholarship program is an initiative by the Philippine Space Agency to support the education of deserving students in the Philippines.

PhilSA is now accepting applications for its Advanced Degrees for Accelerating Strategic Space R&D and Applications (AD ASTRA) Scholarships Program. Beginning 2024, applications shall be accepted throughout the year, but with specific deadlines per scholarship category.

Benefits of PhilSA AD Astra Scholarship

The Philippine Space Agency offers scholarships to students studying Masters and Doctorate programs. The benefits of PhilSA AD Astra Scholarship are as follows:

For Masters

  • Tuition and other school fees – Actual
  • Stipend (accommodation, meals, incidental expenses) – Local – Php 27,500/monthly
  • Book Allowance – Php 22,000/year
  • Technological Support – Php 50,000/per laptop (maximum) and Php 1,000 monthly internet connection
  • Thesis / Dissertation / Internship Allowance (if applicable) – Php 66,000
  • Research Dissemination Grant  (if applicable) – Php 82,500 (subject to liquidation)
  • Mentor’s Fee  (if applicable) – Php 39,600
  • One Round-Trip Transportation Allowance
  • Pre-departure Allowance
  • Relocation Allowance
  • Disability Support
  • Extra Academic Activities
  • Research Grant
  • Mentoring / Support Program
  • Membership in PhilSA Scholars Group

For Doctorate

  • Tuition and other school fees – Actual
  • Stipend (accommodation, meals, incidental expenses) – Local – Php 36,000/monthly
  • Book Allowance – Php 22,000/year
  • Technological Support – Php 50,000/per laptop (maximum) and Php 1,000 monthly internet connection
  • Thesis / Dissertation / Internship Allowance (if applicable) – Php 110,000
  • Research Dissemination Grant  (if applicable) – Php 82,500 (subject to liquidation)
  • Mentor’s Fee  (if applicable) – Php 79,200
  • One Round-Trip Transportation Allowance – Actual

Who can apply for PhilSA AD Astra Scholarship

The PhilSA Scholarship is open for students who have completed their Bachelor’s degree, and are aiming to pursue research or a Master’s or Doctoral degree in fields related to Space Science, Technology, and Applications (SSTA), including space law, diplomacy, industry, and economics, in local or international higher educational institutions (HEIs).

Types of Scholarships

The Philippine Space Agency is offering three types of scholarships for fields relevant to the agency’s Key Development Areas (KDAs) under this program and they are as follows:

  • Full Scholarship
  • Partial / Lateral Scholarship
  • Sandwich Scholarship program

NOTE: Please note that the scholarship will fund studies in disciplines related to space science and technology applications, but not limited to the priority courses given above.

Eligibility Criteria for Scholarship

Following is the eligibility criteria a student must meet to be eligible to apply for PhilSA Scholarship program:

  • The applicant must be a Filipino citizen.
  • He or She must be in good health.
  • Must not be more than 45 years old at the time of application for Masters and Doctorate Scholarships, and not more than 50 years old for stand-alone sandwich programs.
  • Must be of good moral character, as attested by two (2) character references.
  • The Student must have a relevant Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree.
  • Must have no pending administrative/criminal case.
  • Must have no pending service obligation from any previous scholarship programs unless there is a clearance or consent from the previous granting institution allowing the postponement of return service obligation and indicating that monitoring of the previous service obligation will not be transferred to PhilSA.
  • He or She must have a research/thesis/dissertation plan in line with the Key Development Areas of PhilSA.
  • Must have passed the admission requirements of any CHED-recognized Higher Educational Institution (HEI) (for local scholarship applicants).
  • Must have passed the internal scholarship process of his/her Department/Agency (for government employees).
  • The applicant must have been accepted to their host institution.

    • Proof of acceptance to the University or host institution
  • For applicants with previous scholarships with service obligations
    • Certificate of No Pending Service Obligation or Certificate of Deferment of Return Service
  • For applicants under regular employment government agencies
    • Certificate of No Pending Administrative Case
    • Endorsement letter from Head of Agency

    • June 15 for First Semester Intake
    • October 15 for Second Semester Intake
  • Stand-alone Sandwich Program
    • March 30
  • Foreign Scholarships
    • March 30 for August to December Intake
    • August 30 for January to July Intake for the following year
