OWWA Scholarships are offered by Overseas Workers Welfare Administration. The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration is an organization that promotes the welfare and well-being of Filipino workers working overseas by offering OFWs and their dependents  a variety of scholarships, insurances, health care, and educational opportunities.

The OWWA is now accepting applications from students who seek financial support while attending college. The government will provide financial assistance to students so that they can continue their study. These scholarships are the best possibilities for Filipino students whose parents work overseas.

Types of OWWA Scholarships

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) provides various scholarships to OFWs and their dependents. As a result, if you’re an OFW, it’s essential that you keep your OWWA membership active and make use of OWWA Scholarships opportunities

OWWA mainly offers three fully funded scholarships which are as follows :

  • Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP)
  • OFW Dependent Scholarship Program (ODSP)
  • Education and Livelihood Assistance Program for the Dependents of Deceased OFW Members (ELAP)

Education for Development Scholarship Program – EDSP Scholarship

  • The Education for Development Scholarship Program – EDSP Scholarship, provides scholarships to qualified dependents of OFWs until they complete their bachelor’s degree (4-5 years).
  • The Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) offers a Php 60,000 scholarship award every school year.
  • The DOST national tests determine who will be selected as scholars for incoming freshmen.
  • 600 slots are allocated for existing college students, and only the top 400 candidates who pass the test will be considered for admission as freshmen.

Requirements for OWWA Scholarship – EDSP

Following are the requirements for Education for Development Scholarship Program – EDSP OWWA Scholarships

For Grade 12 Incoming Senior High School

  • A child of an active OWWA member or a sibling of a single active OWWA member.
  • Have at least 80% General Weighted Average (GWA) without failing grades upon application.
  • Must have passed the DOST qualifying examination
  • Must belong to the top 400 passers nationwide.
  • Must not be receiving any other scholarships.

For Incoming 1st year College Freshmen

  • A child of an active OWWA member or a sibling of a single active OWWA member.
  • Must be Single and not more than 21 years old.
  • Must be Grade 11 graduate (Incoming Grade 12 / previously enrolled as Grade 12)
  • Have at least 80% General Weighted Average* (GWA) without failing grades upon application.
  • Must have passed the DOST qualifying examination in the top 400 qualifiers nationwide.
  • Must not be receiving any other scholarships.

* Please note : If required GWA is not yet available at the time of filing of application, the academic performance of the applicant in the two consecutive preceding school year shall be used as basis for evaluation.

For those already enrolled in 2nd to 5th year of College

  • Must be a child of an active OWWA member or a sibling of a single active OWWA member.
  • Must not be more than 30 years old.
  • Must have a General Weighted Average (GWA) of 85% equivalence or not lower than grade B in all academic and non-academic subjects during the last school year attended in full load.
  • Must not be receiving any other scholarships.

OFW Dependent Scholarship Program – ODSP Scholarship

  • The OFW Dependent Scholarship Program – ODSP Scholarship, gives scholarships to qualifying dependents of OFWs whose monthly wage is less than US $600.00.
  • The OFW Dependent Scholarship Program (ODSP) provides financial assistance in the amount of Php 20,000.00 every academic year.
  • The OFW Dependent Scholarship Program (ODSP) is available to all qualified Filipinos who will enroll, are already enrolled, or have previously enrolled in any four-year or five-year bachelor or associate course at any institution or university.

Requirements for OWWA Scholarship – ODSP

Following are the requirements for Education for Development Scholarship Program – ODSP OWWA Scholarships

  • The Salary of OFW relative OWWA members must be $600 or less per month.
  • For entering freshmen, the candidate must be either a sibling of an unmarried, under-21 OWWA member or a child of an active OWWA member.
  • The applicant must be a child of an active OWWA member who is single and under the age of 30 and who is currently or has previously been enrolled in college.
  • The applicant must have completed high school and be in good physical and mental health.
  • The applicant must have a good moral conduct.
  • The applicant must pass an admission exam conducted by the state institution or university where he or she intends to enroll in the OWWA Regional Welfare Offices.
  • The applicant must not be a recipient of any scholarships other than OWWA Scholarships.

Education and Livelihood Assistance Program – ELAP Scholarship

  • The Education and Livelihood Assistance Program – ELAP Scholarship, is a scholarship program designed for the families of OFWs who are imprisoned, convicted, and sentenced to death in other countries, as well as survivors of deceased OFWs who were active OWWA members at the time of their deaths.
  • It seeks to provide surviving family members with a source of income to complement the family’s income as well as financial help for a qualified dependent’s ongoing education.
  • ELAP Provides Educational and Financial Assistance to the dependents of OFWs.

Educational Assistance in ELAP Scholarship

Educational Assistance is for dependent children of deceased OFWs who are studying or eligible to study from Elementary School to Higher Educations. The first or eldest child born must be qualified to be a dependent; if the first born is not eligible, the next child born is designated as a dependent. The assistance includes:

  • Elementary (kindergarten) Education assistance – PHP 5,000.00
  • Secondary Education assistance – PHP 8,000.00, and
  • Higher Education assistance – PHP 10,000.00.

Financial Assistance in ELAP Scholarship

The Education and Livelihood Assistance Program – ELAP Scholarship, gives a Php 15,000.00 Livelihood Assistance to the family and dependents of deceased OFWs.

Following are the requirements for Education and Livelihood Assistance Program – ELAP OWWA Scholarships

For 1st year College Incoming Freshmen

  • A child of an active OWWA member or a sibling of a single active OWWA member.
  • The applicant must be Single. and below 21 years old.
  • Must be Grade 11 graduate (Incoming Grade 12 / previously enrolled as Grade 12).
  • Must not be receiving any other scholarships.

For those already enrolled in 2nd year to 5th year of College

  • A child of an active OWWA member or a sibling of a single active OWWA member.
  • Must not be more than 30 years old.

  • Step-2 : Complete the form to the best of your knowledge.
  • Step-3 : Complete all of the documentation specifications.
  • Step-4 : Submit all documents to the OWWA Regional Welfare Office or via online.
  • Step-5 : Wait for the call from OWWA if you are in the applicants slot.
