Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) 2023 to 2024

Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) is a Scholarship program by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) group. The OWWA group promotes the welfare and wellbeing of Filipino workers who are employed abroad. So, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration provides various scholarships opportunities, insurances, and educational opportunities for Overseas Filipino Worker and their dependents.

Education for Development Scholarship Program – EDSP OWWA Scholarship

  • Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) is an OWWA Scholarship grant for qualifying dependents of OFWs till completion of bachelor course (4-5 years).
  • Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) provides a scholarship grant of Php 60,000.00 per school year
  • The DOST national examinations decides the selection of scholars for incoming freshmen.
  • 600 spots are reserved for students who are currently enrolled in college and only the top 400 students who pass the test will be given consideration for admission as freshmen.

What are the Qualifications for Education for Development Scholarship Program – EDSP OWWA Scholarship

The qualifications required to apply for Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) Scholarship are

For Incoming Senior High School (Grade 12)

  • The applicant must be a child of an active OWWA member or a sibling of a single active OWWA member.
  • He or She must have at least 80% General Weighted Average (GWA) without failing grades upon application.
  • He or She must have passed the qualifying examination to be conducted by DOST and belongs to the top 400 passers nationwide.
  • He or She must not be receiving any other scholarships.

For Incoming Freshmen (1st year college)

  • The applicant must be a child of an active OWWA member or a sibling of a single active OWWA member.
  • The applicant must be Single.
  • He or She must be Grade 11 graduate (Incoming Grade 12 / currently enrolled as Grade 12).
  • He or She must not be more than 21 years old.
  • He or She must have a General Weighted Average (GWA) of at least 80% or higher. If required GWA is not yet available at the time of filing of application, the academic performance of the applicant in the two consecutive preceding school year shall be used as basis for evaluation.
  • He or She must belong to the top 400 qualifiers of the Department of Science and Technology national qualifying exam.
  • He or She must not be receiving any other scholarships.

For those who are already enrolled in 2nd year to 5th year in college

  • He or She must be a child of an active OWWA member or a sibling of a single active OWWA member.
  • He or She must not be more than 30 years old.
  • He or She must have a General Weighted Average (GWA) not lower than B letter grade or 85% equivalence in all academic and non-academic subjects during the last school year attended in full load.
  • He or She must not be receiving any other scholarships.

Documentary Requirements for EDSP OWWA Scholarship

The documents required to apply for EDSP OWWA Scholarship are

  • The Scholarship Application Form – OWWA RWO (Regional Welfare Office)
  • Proof of OFW – OFW Membership Record – OWWA RWO (Regional Welfare Office)
  • Picture I.D. with Name Tag – 2pcs.
  • At least one (1) valid I.D. of the OFW and/or the Authorized Representative issued by Government or Company Issued I.D.
  • Proof of Relationship to OFW Member i.e. Birth Certificate from PSA or LCR (Philippine Statistics Authority or Local Civil Registrar)
    • OFW Birth Certificate, if dependent is sibling
    • OFW Certificate of No Marriage Record (CENOMAR, if single)
    • Dependent’s Birth Certificate
  • Dependent’s Form 137 / Certified True Copy of Form 138 / Transcript of Records (TOR) issued by School Registrar
    • For incoming first year, 80% GWA without failing grades
    • For second to fifth year, 85% GWA without failing grades
  • For Incoming 1st Year College, Notice from RWOs of qualifying the DOST-OWWA

  • Other Special Requirements (WAIVED DUE TO PANDEMIC):
  • Certificate of Good Moral by School Registrar or Authorized School Officer/Faculty
  • Medical Certificate i.e. Physically Fit to attend school if student has a medical pre-condition/s by any competent Medical Practitioner from public or private medical institution/facility

How to Apply for EDSP OWWA Scholarship

  • Visit the OWWA Regional Welfare Office that administers the OFW’s primary residence.
  • Obtain a queue number or join the line to apply for an EDSP scholarship.
  • Present the OFW member’s ID and the necessary documents at the Membership Verification Desk.
  • Obtain the notice of award and the orientation schedule for evaluation and validation.
  • Participate in the scholarship orientation and assist with notarizing the scholarship agreement.
