OWWA has recently announced about the Social benefits program that provides Financial Assistance under the name Death and Burial Assistance to cover the funeral expenses of active OWWA Member OFWs.

Death and Burial Assistance

The OWWA – Overseas Workers Welfare Administration is responsible for the welfare and wellbeing of Filipino workers who are employed abroad. To help the families of OFW dependents, OWWA has initiated various programs.

The Death and Burial Assistance program is a Financial Assistance given by OWWA to cover the funeral expenses of the active OWWA OFW members. This assistance helps the OFW dependents to send-off their beloved members with dignity without worrying about the expenses incurred for their funeral.

How much Financial Assistance is given

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration – OWWA, provides Death Benefit and Burial Gratuity to the beneficiaries of the deceased OFW for the burial of their loved ones.

Following is the financial assistance given by OWWA:

Death Benefit: Death Benefit is an insurance benefit given to the survivors of deceased OFWs who were active OWWA members at the time of death. Beneficiaries are entitled to the following Death Benefits

  • In case of death by natural causes, the financial assistance is ₱100,000.00.
  • In case of accidental death, the financial assistance is ₱200,000.00.

Burial Gratuity: Along with Death Benefits, dependents of the deceased OFWs will receive a burial gratuity of ₱20,000.00. This funeral grant is given to the OFW dependents to assist them for the decent burial of their loved ones.

Qualifications for OWWA Assistance

The dependents of the deceased OFW members are qualified for the OWWA Death and Burial Assistance program.

Requirements to receive Assistance

Following is the list of requirements required to apply for OWWA Death and Burial Assistance program:

  • OFW Membership Record (MR)
  • Copy of Passport or Seaman’s Identification Record Book (SIRB) of the OFW – Member
  • Two (2) Valid IDs and One (1) copy of ID Picture of claimant (1×1)
  • Death Certificate (local o foreign; police / accident report – if death was caused by accident)
  • Burial Permit and Official Receipt of payment in funeral
  • Affidavit of Undertaking executed by claimant
  • Proof of Relationship to OFW Member
    • OFW CENOMAR, if single
    • Marriage Certificate
    • Birth Certificate of OFW, if the claimant is the parent
    • Birth Certificate of the claimant and death certificate of deceased spouse, for OFWs child

How to apply for OWWA Death and Burial Assistance program

All eligible and qualified dependents of the deceased active OWWA OFW member can apply for the OWWA Death and Burial Assistance program by following the steps given below:

  • Visit the nearest OWWA Regional Welfare Office which covers the permanent address of the OFW
  • Get a queuing number or queue in the line.
  • Visit the membership verification desk and present OFW I.D. or their information.
  • Based on status of membership obtain application form and checklist of requirements
  • Submit the accomplished claim form and required documents for verification and evaluation.
  • Once approved, you can proceed to present claim stub and claim the death and burial financial assistance through check or cash pay-out.
